I was fortunate enough to be involved in making the initial land purchase happen - and have been following BPF with enthusiasm ever since.

This project is the future!

I was one of the founder members of BPF and co-ordinator for the first year. I also live next door at Bowden House Community.

It is so beautiful to see the coming together of the human and wild worlds on the land surrounding where I live. To see the flourishing of community and wild life in collaboration on land that was previously conventionally farmed only for productivity and human benefit. I am so exciting by what we can learn about how to honour our place in the web of life more fully through this project. Wishing you all well on this vital and radical adventure.

Bowden Pillars is an An inspiring visionary project which offers opportunities to many people, Totnes and a model to be followed elsewhere.

Totnes Climate Hub exists to put people and planet at the heart of the Totnes community by inspiring individuals and businesses to take climate action.

Our vision is a future for Totnes that goes beyond net zero in a just transition to a truly sustainable and thriving culture.

Bowden Pillars is a brilliant example of how people can come together to do good for their community and the natural world.

I first heard about the project in September 2024 while volunteering at Schumacher College.

Later, while studying nature recovery at Ambios on the Sharpham Estate, I visited the Bowden Pillars land and was deeply struck by its beauty and by the team’s commitment. I went on to volunteer in the Social Design circle and, in April 2025, decided to support the project financially.

Although I’ve since moved away, I still stay connected through open days and online meetings. Over the next year or two, I hope to return to the Totnes area and become more involved again.

Circular Earth

I am Rachel, a circularity professional in the fashion industry & education living over in London, connected to the project by my dear friend.

I am interested in the project as a possible space to dwell. I also use the project as a case study to share with students interested in sustainable development & business.

I am supporting this incredible project because it is embracing everything I believe our future needs: deeper connection with the land, integrated community engagement and progressive open spaces for all of society.

I'm a passionate and well connected human committed to supporting all sectors of our society to be engaged and working alongside the natural environment, knowing that we are also part of nature. I am committed to being part of projects that our children need to survive in this demanding world!

This project is exactly what the world needs during these challenging times. Community, sustainable food production, respect for earth, nurturing nature.

I'm an admirer of this project and have been for many years. I'd love to emulate it or join it - whichever I can do first.

My partner and I have been on a journey of trying to find and live in intentional community for 5 years, amd have realised just how challenging it is to get things started in this modern world and with two young children. I’m really moved by all the energy behind Bowden pillars and am deeply inspired and aligned with their vision.

I live in Buckfastleigh with my young family. I manage the gardens at Gaia House retreat centre, and I’m inspired to be part of creating a new and more sane story of what society and culture looks like in the modern world.
